Criccieth is a small seaside town perfectly situated on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park and at the gateway to the stunning, wild scenery of the Llŷn Peninsula. The town is dominated by the impressive remains of its thirteenth-century castle, dating from the reign of Llewelyn the Great (1200-1240). The scenery in North Wales is superb with fine beaches, tumbling rivers and the mountains, lakes and waterfalls of Snowdonia.
There will be two excursions, a visit to Portmeirion, built over decades from the 1920s, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis designed the utterly unique place of Portmeirion in the style of an Italian village, Portmeirion's maze of elaborate villas, scattered domes and neatly placed squares are set within gardens and an encompassing area of unbeatable natural beauty and a journey on the Ffestiniog railway before visiting the 'Ugly House' and Pwllheli.

Return to Criccieth via the seaside town of Porthmadog, gateway to Snowdonia.
